Sunny Beach is becoming more expensive holiday destination

The company Post Office Travel Money has once again published the results of the analysis of the most budget holiday destinations. The study involved 40 resorts and cities. In 2024, the Bulgarian resort of Sunny Beach, which has held leading positions in the world and European rankings for many years, became the seventh. Vietnam was recognized as the cheapest resort. 

The British agency Post Travel Money presented its eighteenth study of the holiday destination market. Every year, the company fixes the exchange rate of local currencies to the pound sterling and creates a kind of barometer of prices, determining the cheapest holiday destination. This year, thanks to the stable pound sterling exchange rate, UK citizens could enjoy more affordable holidays in many countries. 

The research states that a number of countries turned out to be in a more advantageous position compared to others. Before Apart Estate experts present you with the key points of the rating, we would like to note that the study is based on an analysis of the prices of the following products: a three-course meal with wine for two, a cup of coffee, a bottle of local beer, a can of Coca-Cola, a 1.5 liter bottle of water, sunscreen and repellent.

So, taking into account all the prices, Vietnam turned out to be the cheapest holiday destination and took the first place in the global ranking. Cape Town, the second largest city in South Africa, is in second place. Mombasa, a city in Kenya, is in third place. Tokyo, Japan, took fourth place. 

The ranking includes 15 European countries. The fifth place of the global study belongs to Algarve, Portugal. Sunny Beach is the second among European resorts and the seventh in the overall ranking after Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. 

It is Sunny Beach that was considered the cheapest holiday destination in Europe for many years. However, in 2022, it lost its leading position to Marmaris, and since then, travel costs at the Bulgarian resort have been constantly growing. 

It is interesting to note that 8 items, the prices of which are analyzed by Post Office Travel Money, in 2022 in Sunny Beach cost £26.19, while in 2024 – £ 62.49. This difference is due to price increases, as well as exchange rate changes. 

Despite the rise in prices in Sunny Beach, the resort is extremely popular among tourists.
