15 Bulgarian beaches were awarded a Blue Flag certificate in 2019

In 2019 15 of 240 Bulgarian beaches received an iconic international Blue Flag. It is an ecological label awarded to marinas and beaches for special efforts in protecting the environment. The coastline management must meet 32 requirements related to seawater quality, safety, environmental awareness, etc. The award comes from the Foundation for Environmental Education. It is a non-governmental organization with 47 members from Europe, the Americas, the Caribbean, Asia, Africa, Oceania. 

Awarding takes place every year, before the opening of the swimming season. In the northern hemisphere it is early June.

• Oasis;
• Sozopol-Harmani;
• Sunny Beach-South;
• Pomorie-East; 
• Nessebar-South;
• Elenite;
• Albena;
• Sunny Day;
• St.Vlas-New;
• White Lagoon;
• Golden Sands;
• Sunny beach – Central;
• Sunny Beach-North.

The beaches Golden Sands and Sunny Beach-Central received the award in the first time. 

Golden Sands rebuilt the wastewater treatment plants, so now the coast responds to the strict cleanliness and safety requirements. 

The central beach of Sunny beach has been passed into good hands of a new concessionaire who made it suitable for people experiencing issues with movement, took care of enough garbage bins, disinfected and cleaned the whole area.

Dunes, Sunny Day and Albena regularly receive the ecological symbol. For Sunny Day it is the 23rd consecutive prize, for Albena – the 21st.

The prestigious flag traditionally flaunts over the Marina Dinevi yacht port in Sveti Vlas.

The seashore corresponding to the highest ecological standards have lifeguards, changing cabins, bio-toilets, garbage containers. The water probes are taken and sand is sifted on a daily basis.
